Ducks Fly Full Moon on October 14
Full Moon Gathering & Ceremony on October 11
During this time of the Ducks Fly Moon, focus on what can
succeed, let go of what won't succeed, and create a small ceremony to
help with these tasks by making an offering to the universe.
The Ducks Fly moon
is the time when the birds begin their fall migration to a more
hospitable homeland for the harsh winter months. Such a move requires
that they release anything they might still have been working to foster
during the spring and summer months. This is a time of change and
release, as they've given up their summer homeland, said goodbye to
their young-ones, so they can make their own journey, and sought out
their alternate, winter territory.
As you think about this Ducks
Fly Moon and how you can capitalize on the energies that are readily
available to you in the universe at this time, you'll need to let go of
what won't succeed. Do you have any projects that you've been trying to
get off the ground this spring or summer? Well, instead of continuing
to try to get them moving, set them aside. Later you can assess what
might have caused the difficulties you encountered. Then next year, you
can either try again with a new perspective or jettison the idea all
together.
Another perspective for this time is to focus on what
can succeed during this time. Remember the ability to produce, or
create, plant life correlates with sunlight. As the sunlight diminishes
or the days shorten, the energy available in the universe to produce
something diminishes as well. So now is a good time to being to cut
back on your extraneous activities and focus on only what you know can
succeed. Consider all the activities and priorities you have on your
plate and determine which ones to focus on this time. Otherwise you can
deplete yourself and your energies. Not something you'd want to do as
the holidays usually demand a lot from each of us.
And third, as
stated the Ducks Fly Moon is a time of energy shifts. Ceremony is
always a good activity to help you shift your energy. Ceremony is about
getting below the surface. It's about getting beyond ego, all with the
intention of allowing you to focus on what is your essence. With this
focus you have an opportunity to make your prayers real -- real in the
sense of making the spirit energy real or more tangible to you.
A
perfect ceremony to shift and focus your energies is the despacho. The
despacho is the primary ritual of engagement with the universe used by
the Q'ero shamans of the high Andes of Peru. Its purpose is to carry
the prayers of the medicine person to the universe in a ceremony of
appreciation for that which the universe provides to them on a daily
basis and to realign their relationships with the universe.
They
use the despacho to weave energy between the physical ingredients and
their intention to create or manifest their prayers as an offering of
gratitude. They do this ritual because their perception and value for
ayni (or reciprocity) between the community and the environment is one
of cooperation and co-creativity.
Even if you've never seen a
despacho or if you have participated, they can be very simple or quite
elaborate taking hours to create. Consider creating a simple despacho
with a set of three leaves from a bush or tree in your neighborhood,
blow your prayers into them, add a square of chocolate and bury it in
your yard. This allows you to say a prayer with your breath (or life force) and offer it to the universe, making your ritual tangible.
